MACKINAW - The Village of Mackinaw will have a chance in the upcoming election to overturn a rule that has been around for close to eighty years.

A referendum on the March 20th ballot asks if Mackinaw should continue the prohibition of alcohol sales in the village.

The rule has been around since the start of Prohibition in the 1930's, but this is the first time voters will have a say in overturning it.

Supporters of reversing the law say alcohol sales would keep more tax dollars in the village.

Some local businesses we spoke with said they would remain dry regardless of the decision.

Mackinaw is one of the last dry villages in Tazewell County.
