About Dr Andy
Dr. Andrew Morgan is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and the Chief of the Section of Child Development at the University College of Medicine at Peoria. He completed his medical training at Johns Hopkins Medical School and his residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and then returned to Baltimore for a fellowship in Developmental Pediatrics at the Kennedy Institute. Prior to his fellowship, he studied neonatal development at the Port Royal Hospital in Paris and completed NDT certification at the Bobath Institute in London. Dr. Morgan wears many professional hats including the Medical Director of Pediatric Developmental Rehabilitation at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, Medical Director of Easter Seals of Central Illinois, and Medical Consultant to Peoria School District #150. His specific interests are hypotonia, the early diagnosis of cerebral palsy, the diagnosis of ASD and the development of functional outcomes for intervention. He is a past member of the Interagency Council for Early Intervention and was the primary author for much of the initial state-wide EI training.
In his spare time, Dr. Morgan has been actively involved in community theater for over 30 years as a performer and a director. Five years ago, he combined his professional expertise and his passion for theater by creating the Penguin Project – a community theater program for children with disabilities. The Penguin Project productions to date have included: “Annie”, “The Music Man”, “Guys and Dolls”, “High School Musical”, and “Beauty and the Beast”, featuring casts that were comprised completely of young artists with disabilities. The program is now being replicated in other communities, with a production of “Annie” scheduled for mid-June in Bloomington, IL.
