WMBD/WYZZ – SPRINGFIELD -- Governor Pat Quinn is scaling back a plan to fire thousands of state workers.House Speaker Mike Madigan wants to fire all workers appointed by former governors Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan. They would be allowed to reapply and would then be reviewed by the governor for the position.
Quinn says he wants the speaker's "fumigation" plan changed, and wants lower level workers left alone. He says only political appointees should face the ax.
Madigan held his plan in a legislative committee earlier this week, but is hinting that a vote may come next week.
