An Illinois House bill to raise the speed limit on rural interstates to 65mph for semi trailer trucks passed a second reading Wednesday in the Illinois Senate and is scheduled for a final vote Thursday. Meanwhile, a companion Senate bill is still moving through the Illinois House. Three times in the past former Governor Rod Blagojevich vetoed increasing the speed limit. Supporters of increasing the speed limit say its safer for trucks to move with the flow of traffic which opponents argue faster moving trucks can be more dangerous.
