Legislation proposed by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to ban text messaging while driving was approved Thursday by the Illinois Senate Transportation Committee. The bill passed the Illinois House April first. The penalty for violating this proposed measure would result in a moving violation that will go on the motorists driving record as well as accompanying fines and court costs to be determined by the judge. The legislation is based on recommendations made by the states Distracted Driving Task Force which discussed ways to reduce fatalities and injuries caused by distracted drivers.
