A vote on a plan to revamp the appointment process of the State Board of Education was postponed Thursday by the Illinois Senate Executive Committee. The bill has already passed the Illinois House. It would set up a nominating group to screen potential members and select three finalists for each opening on the board. The governor would have the final say. Supporters of the new bill say the revamped process would ensure appointees are qualified.
