ISU Students Learn the Dangers of Drinking

By: Jeff Wagner - WMBD/WYZZ
Updated: April 29, 2009
WMBD/WYZZ- Normal- ISU students were looking a little drunk on the quad this afternoon, all under police supervision of course. The Phi Kappa Psi fraternity along with local police officers hosted an alcohol awareness event. Students learned the effects of heavy drinking by wearing beer goggles. Many struggled walking a straight line or catching a basketball. They even simulated the force of a five mile per hour car crash. Event planners hope the demonstrations leave a lasting impact. "Everyone knows like on college campuses a lot of people drink and everything and we just want people to know the effects and dangers of alcohol and to do proper decisions during the weekends," says fraternity member David Emrich. Police also performed sobriety tests on the students similar to those during actual DUI arrests.
