WMBD/WYZZ TV - WASHINGTON D.C. - Congress began debate tonight over
President Barack Obama's proposed economic stimulus plan. This comes just hours
after Republican leaders, including Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock, met with President
Obama to discuss the package. Some Republicans have been skeptical
of the 'Recovery and Reinvestment Plan', saying it includes wasteful spending
and doesn't do enough to stimulate job growth or give breaks to middle class
tax payers.
The Obama administration has indicated it's open to compromise across the aisle. But according to Congressman Schock, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not allowing discussion.
Schock plans to vote against the plan in its current form when it comes up for a vote in the House.
