WMBD/WYZZ TV – ILLINOIS -- With the state’s new general assembly set to swear in Wednesday, today (1/13) marks the last day on the job for Illinois Senate President Emil Jones Jr. Jones is stepping down after more than three decades in state government. He was the first African American legislative leader in Illinois and a staunch ally of Governor Blagojevich. But his fellow democrats say Jones' legacy should not be marred by his ties with the impeached governor. Jones, himself, says he always tried to stick to his core beliefs - like more money for education and better access to healthcare.
