A former Bartonville Grade School bookkeeper, indicted this week for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from the school, pleaded NOT GUILTY to a grand jury indictment while the judge set May trial date. 34 year old Penny Wells of Canton is facing one count of felony theft after allegedly admitting stealing near 8 thousand dollars from the school. Wells was the school's bookkeeper for nearly two years until she quit last August. Then, the school suspected money was stolen but chose not to press charges. However, the school changed its mind in January when it was revealed more money was missing. Wells reportedly told police she used the money to pay living expenses for her and her daughter.
