Representative Unes Named Lawmaker of Year

Citing his landmark legislation to reduce the high rate of copper and metal thefts, State Representative Mike Unes of East Peoria was named 2013's Consumer Protection Legislator of the Year by a consortium of Illinois Insurance industry trade associations. Under Unes legislation, enacted last year recycling dealers must record all metal purchase transactions and inform local law enforcement agencies if there is suspicion the metal may have been stolen. This legislation comes as the theft of copper tubing reached epidemic proportions, said Kevin Martin, IIA Executive Director. Unes expressed gratitude for the award.
