PEORIA - Local hospitals are being recognized for Taking Action to protect the elderly.
They were honored at the Partners in Peace luncheon Tuesday. It's an annual event that raises money for the Center for Prevention of Abuse.
Methodist Medical Center, OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Pekin Hospital and Proctor Hospital were all named. The center says doctors are learning to ask important questions to elderly patients they suspect may be abuse victims.
"We believe by working as a medical community more closely with these social services and not-for-profits in our community, we can develop a better, more integrated system of improving care," said Dr. Sara Rusch of the U of I College of Medicine.
Dr. Rusch was this year's keynote speaker. The Partners in Peace luncheon previously hosted Vice President Joe Biden as keynote speaker.
