The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say over the past 30 years, 95 people have died during floods and more than 8 billion dollars in damages have occurred.
For this reason, the National Weather Service, local meteorologist and police urge communities to have plan of action during the event of a flood.
Get together with your family members and discuss your communication and emergency plans.
Every member needs to know where to meet if you get separated and who to notify.
The National Weather Service recommends making a disaster preparedness kit that includes items such as water, food, prescription drugs and insurance information.
