PEORIA - A Peoria woman is being acknowledged by Congress for her advocacy work.

The Center for Prevention of Abuse Executive Director Martha Herm is the recipient of the Ed Stout Memorial Award for outstanding victim advocacy. Herm was nominated by Congressman Aaron Schock.

She is one of two recipients of the award.

She said the national recognition is a complete surprise. Herm said, "It's quite wonderful, but you know, to tell you the truth it's not just me. It's all hundred of my staff. They're the ones of the front lines doing what I think is the really hard work."

Herm will go to Washington D.C. in April to accept the honor.
