PEKIN - Saturday morning some single mothers got an unusual day of pampering and relaxation.
"It means a lot to me you don't really get the opportunity to do this kind of thing," said Jessica Bailey, a single mother of two.
She came to the First United Methodist Church in Pekin with her sister Chantil Hass, a single mom of three.
Church member Pam Rahn said the congregation just wanted to ease the burden.
"You work from the minute you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night and all of the responsibility falls on you so we're just really wanting to reach out to them and let them know that there's encouragement," Rahn said.
Volunteers dedicated a full morning to helping single moms like Bailey and Hass, from make-overs to a relaxing hand massages and manicures.
"It's really really hard and times I wish I could get some time alone, this is really really nice," Hass said.
"That's a little pampering little time out of their day where they can kind of have a little relaxation and have somebody else take care of them for a little bit," Rahn said.
And the church helped take care of the kids too. Moms dropped their children off to be entertained with games and activities, while they took it easy for a few hours.
"I think the most favorite thing is going to be getting that picture," Hass said.
She was looking forward to the free family portrait offered up as part of the whole day.
"A Nice memory to keep," said her sister Bailey.
The First United Methodist Church of Pekin also served families a free lunch. Moms left the building with grocery gift cards, an oil change voucher and a picture they can look back on for a lifetime.
