PEORIA - Two city
council candidates are taking a more personal approach to reach voters.
Second district
candidates Barbara Van Auken and Chuck Grayeb squared off in a candidate forum
Thursday night.
The two answered
questions and plead their cases to nearly a dozen residents in a home on
Underhill Street. The forum hit topics
like how to improve public safety, securing the private sector and street
safety.
"This is where
people can really got to know you. You can really have a conversation and talk
with people, instead at them," said incumbent Van Auken.
"I think showing
that we're more responsive to the need and the concerns of the people of the
second, as has been the case. We'll work hard for them for things they really
consider most important," said Grayeb.
The forum was put
together by the University East Neighborhood Association. Early voting takes
place March 25.
