A former Bartonville bookkeeper was charged with stealing thousands of dollars from a local school. 34 year old Penny Wells of Canton faces one count of felony theft after allegedly admitting to stealing nearly 8 thousand dollars from Bartonville Grade School. Wells was the schools' book keeper for nearly two years until she quit last August. Then, the school suspected she could have stolen six hundred dollars but chose not to press charges. However, the school changed its mind in January after a further investigation revealed more money was missing. Wells reportedly told police she used the money to pay living expenses for her and her daughter. Her bond was set at 15 thousand dollars.
