The Tazewell County Youth Board led
the 24th annual Teen Conference Tuesday at Illinois Central College.
More than 200 teenagers practiced
everything from self-defense to internet safety through a series of workshops.
Youth Board President Morgan Gain said
the conference aims to address two big problems - drug use and distracted driving.
"We basically aim to teach kids the disadvantages of reckless driving,
anti-substance abuse, we look at anti-alcohol as well for underage drinkers and
so we basically want to become a positive example among our peers."
The conference is sponsored by the Tazewell
County Health Department.
It also offers workshops specifically tailored for junior high school students.
