A bill to allow the use of marijuana in Illinois for medical purposes passed the Illinois House Human Services Committee Wednesday and is scheduled for a second reading in the Illinois House. The measure would allow patients over 18 diagnosed with certain illnesses to obtain marijuana. Supporters claim it allow patients to get relieve from pain without the harmful effects other prescription drugs may cause. However, opponents say the bill could encourage marijuana use for recreational purposes.
