EAST PEORIA - Many new things are happening in East Peoria's Levee District. The city has more tenants to announce in the coming weeks.
Leaders said they're excited the city will offer much more for visitors and for the thousands who call central Illinois home.
The Levee District is filling up fast. Target opens Wednesday, followed by Gordman's and Ulta Beauty in the next two weeks.
Chamber of Commerce Director Rick Swan said, "The stores that are now open and the stores that are going to be opening, we hope that the traffic down there is more than we expect.
He said March is a big month for store openings, but much more is still on its way. He said, "During the summer we'll be opening Ross Dress for Less, Potbelly's, late summer and early fall there's going to be a Red Robin, the Holiday Inn, the Morton Community Bank and the library."
Not only are businesses and restaurants drawing in a crowd, part of the construction includes the Civic Plaza - which will house the new library and common spaces for community events. He said, "That will be the new gathering area, the meeting areas, is what we hope for."
Swan said the city hopes to offer a higher quality of living, dining, shopping and make the Levee District a place that everyone will enjoy. "We want this to be an area that people not only want to visit but possibly want to live here, move here and enjoy it, businesses and residents both."
East Peoria is holding a grand opening celebration on March 16th in the Levee District. There will be food, entertainment, and plenty of activities for the kids. It starts at 10AM and runs through 4PM. For more information on the event, visit www.eastpeoriaentertowin.com. Visitors can enter to win a $500 shopping spree.
