BLOOMINGTON- Local students with a craving for pancakes, hash browns, and fresh fruit are in luck.
It's National Breakfast Week, and Bloomington District 87 schools are taking part.
The annual event emphasizes the importance of a healthy meal to start the day.
Through Friday the district is hosting a variety of events to promote the school breakfast program.
It's offered to students each school day starting at 7 am.
Cafeteria Manager Marc Dietz says there are a variety of items to buy at Bloomington High School, and eating breakfast equals brain power.
"The main point of national breakfast week is to bring awareness to the students and the children about breakfast and how it's the most important meal of the day," Dietz explained. "It will help them throughout the day to stay focused on their studies and not focused on being hungry."
There's even more reason to buy breakfast at school.
District 87 is giving a Best Buy gift card to one lucky winner who eats in the cafeteria Wednesday morning.
