BBB Warns of Free Flight Scam

PEORIA - The Better Business Bureau is warning people about a new scam that's telling people they've won a free airline ticket.
The BBB says the
letters are being sent by mail. The letters are telling residents that they've
won free American Airlines tickets, courtesy of U.S. Airlines. However, the BBB
says U.S. Airlines is not a real airline.
The letter also asks
recipients to call and give their personal and credit card information. BBB
Vice President Jessica Tharp says that's not a good idea.
"When we're having
grey skies here in central Illinois, you really long for those sunny beaches.
But if they're looking for more money when it's free up front, it's not true,"
said Tharp. "So you need to be careful about who you're giving your information
to."
If you've received one
of these letters or think you may be a victim of the scam, you're asked to call
the BBB at (309) 688-5124.
