PEORIA - Thousands of central Illinois volunteers are asking for you to help a neighbor in need.

It's the 2013 Food Share Canathon.

It's led by the Peoria Area Anti-Hunger Coalition and this year's goal is 90,000 pounds of food.

Starting Monday, March 4, you can drop off your canned goods at your local Kroger Grocery store or you can hang donations on your door and a volunteer will collect them on March 10. President of the Peoria Area Anti-Hunger Coalition Pepper Bauer said, "Every community has their own group that goes door to door. In Peoria, we have a pretty good sized group of area churches and youth but every town has people going door to door."

If you want to help, you can fill a bag with nonperishable and canned foods, such as chili, peanut butter, or fruits and vegetables.

The donated goods will help fill the shelves of local food pantries.
