CHENOA- A Spring Valley man is dead after being hit by a train Friday night in Chenoa.
The McLean County coroner said in a statement that the victim is most likely 53-year-old Anthony Bernardini.
The coroner said Bernardini was crossing a rail road track near the intersection of US Route 24 and Morehead, around 9:00 p.m. and that he was pronounced dead on the scene.
The coroner said an autopsy done on Saturday shows Bernardini died from multiple blunt force injuries, and that alcohol might have played a role.
Chenoa Police Chief Travis Cornwall said they are still investigating with the help of one witness.
"From the engineer that witnessed from on the train said the signals were working properly," Cornwall said.
The coroner said the identity of the victim will be confirmed via finger print comparison early this week.
