Representatives approved restrictions
of the right to carry guns in places like schools, amusement parks and mental
health facilities.
Locally, residents said they hope
lawmakers are considering all of the options for a concealed carry law.
Peoria resident Jeff Woods said, "I
understand there's fruit loops out there that do things like the Sandy Hook
episode and things of that nature but for those who live an honest life, it's a
way for us to protect our families."
Washington resident Dick Stinson said,
"It's one of those tough issues but I think it's the right thing to do I think
we should have concealed carry. Perhaps with limitations, I don't think it'd be
a problem with the required training for example. I don't think we ought to
turn everyone lose with guns."
Critics to concealed carry said
carrying a gun is not an effective form of self-defense and it increases the
change of unintended shootings.
The House of Representatives has until
June to come up with a formal bill.
