Snow Could Impact Primary Voting

PEORIA - Work is being
done to keep winter weather from disrupting voters in Tuesday primaries.
Primary voting in Peoria's
first and fifth districts takes place Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Peoria Election Commission is figuring
out how to handle the expected snowfall. Crews are prepared to sweep and clean
every voting location.
However, Thomas Bride,
executive director of the election commission, says there are concerns about
getting voting machines back to headquarters to be counted.
Absentee voting was extended
until 6 p.m. for people wanting to avoid the snow. However, the snow is not
expected to hurt what some say will be a low turnout.
"Early voting and
absentee voting were not-- we haven't even hit 300 voters, so we don't expect a
large turnout anyway. But a weather event never helps turnout," Bride
said.
In the first district,
current at-large city councilman Gary Sandberg faces off against Denise Moore
and Randall Emert.
Current fifth district
seat holder, Councilman Dan Irving faces Casey Johnson and write-in, Dan Adler.
