Ameren Reports Nearly Billion Dollar Loss

Ameren Corporation, parent company of Ameren Illinois, reported Wednesday it lost nearly a
billion dollars in 2012, due, in part to warmer winter weather and lower bond yields.
According to a company release, the company lost $974 million . Ameren Illinois GAAP 2012
earnings were $141 million compared to $193 million in 2011. The merchant generation segment
for 2012 saw a net loss of $1.5 billion. For the fourth quarter of 2012, Ameren reported a net loss
of $1.15 billion, compared to a net income of $25 million in 2011. Meantime, with the impending
winter storm, Ameren says it's prepared to meet the challenge of possible storm related service
outages. All Ameren Illinois and contractor personnel have been placed on alert. If necessary, Ameren Illinois is prepared to deploy the special Ameren Illinois Storm Trailers.
