PEORIA- An independent school says it's teaching kids to learn with both sides of their brains, at the same time.
Children graduated Saturday from a program called Mental Math School, located at 7620 North University Street. It teaches students to learn with the right and left side of their brains, using logic and visual cues.
Teacher Letriana Cantrell said it's not just about math, but that being able to soak up more information will help brain development so they can excel in other areas of life too.
They say this teaching style might be unique to Peoria, but it's a technique that's been around for centuries.
"The ancient Chinese, they actually started it and it's mostly done in that part of the world, so what we're trying to do is bring it over to our side of the world and teach our students and our children so they can be better at math and all aspects and education," Cantrell said.
Mental Math is an independent school that meets two hours a week. To learn more, visit their website.
