One of two emergency spending bills, passed by the Illinois House, was approved Thursday by
the Illinois Senate, according to the Illinois General Assembly website. The bill requires
the governor to submit a state budget no later than March 6th. The second bill has already been
signed into law by the governor. Supporters of that bill say the spending will focus on jobs in
highway construction projects and money for the state's Children and Family Services to hire
child abuse investigators and beef up mental health programs.
