PEORIA - One person is dead after an apparent burglary and shooting in North Peoria.
39-year-old Denise Leuthold was found dead inside a home at 700 W. Mossville Rd shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. Police are ruling the death as a homicide.
No suspect is in custody. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.
According to Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard, police were notified about a possible break-in shortly after 3 p.m. and when authorities arrived, the victim was found.
Police blocked off the road leading to the home for several hours.
The north Peoria community, located less than a mile from the intersection of Mossville Rd. and Knoxville Rd., is not known for this activity, according to residents.
However, some residents tell WMBD 31 that this would not be the first burglary in the area. Multiple break-ins have occurred in the last two years, but none leading to anything like Thursday's homicide, according to neighbors.
Police have searched the house and are not releasing any information about a weapon or possible suspects.
Police asked people in the North Peoria area near this location to lock their doors and to watch out.
If anyone has any information, please call the police 309-494-8000.
