BARTONVILLE --- The not-for-profit group trying to save Bartonville's old mental hospital said new development may no longer be possible.

Director Richard Weiss said the "Save the Bowen" organization can't afford the extensive repairs the building needs.

He said the group already owes the city of Bartonville more than $300,000 and in order to carry out his original plan, he needs a new developer to step in.

Weiss expects the hospital to be open for tours until April.

If he hasn't found a developer by then, he may return ownership of the building to the city of Bartonville.
