PEORIA - Some of you may have celebrated Fat Tuesday by indulging in paczkis.
The traditional Polish pastry is frosted and filled with jelly.
But if that doesn't appeal to your sweet tooth, perhaps you'd prefer a king cake...
It's another delicious pastry based on French traditions and has a little trinket inside, usually a figurine that symbolizes baby Jesus.
Whomever gets the piece with the trinket, is declared king or queen of the day.
"It's supposed to look like the crown of the three wisemen when they visited baby Jesus," says Le Bakery owner Debb Robbins in reference to its circular shape.
"The tradition is Fat Tuesday, you fill up on goodies before you start the beginning of Lent," she continues.
The Roman Catholic religion observes the solemn season of Lent starting on Ash Wednesday in preparation for Easter.
Many Catholics give up indulgences in reverence to the sacrifices they believe Jesus made for his followers.
