Bloomington's City Manager is proposing big numbers for the 2013 fiscal year. At Monday night's Bloomington City Council meeting the City Manager proposed 169.4 million dollars for the city's spending. The budget emphasized public safety and infrastructure. The manager would like to see 3 more firefighters and 2 more police officers hired as well as the addition of a Communication Manager. The budget would also include more money devoted to street and sidewalk repair. Monday night's meeting was just the initial phase, there are still other items not included in the budget at this point.
David Hales says ""There are significant issues we're grappling with and trying to deal with. I think it's important to point out that we have existing resources to continue to deal with some very big ticket issues."
A Citizen's Voice meeting will be held February 27th followed by a Council Retreat in the beginning of March.
