BLOOMINGTON - McLean County community leaders and local immigrants are calling on lawmakers to help them gain citizenship, without sacrificing their family ties.
The Illinois People's Action held a press conference at the McLean County Museum of History to launch the "Keeping Families Together" campaign.
The group is calling on Republicans and Democrats to pass immigration reform, preventing families from being ripped apart.
That includes a more comprehensive path to citizenship, and job and educational opportunities, and even fair pay.
Rubi Sanchez of the IPA said, "...So that families are not being separated and they can just be together and not being scared of the police stopping them."
