BLOOMINGTON - Hundreds of central Illinois runners pounded the pavement Saturday afternoon to keep their hearts pumping strong.
Many women decked out in their finest shades of red are participating in, the "Red Dress Dash."
The Bloomington based event hosted by OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center, helps the American Heart Association combat diseases, like heart attack and stroke.
Turns out heart disease is the number one killer of American women.
Organizers say this dash geared towards women, is meant to help them take charge of their heart health.
Carrie Skogsberg of the American Heart Association said, "Eighty percent of heart disease can be prevented. You can do that with lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. So why not come out here and do a quick half mile run and get a little bit of exercise today and try to prevent heart disease."
This is the first year for the Red Dress Dash.
Organizers hope to make it an annual event.
