PEORIA- The totals are in. The Salvation Army's tree of lights Campaign is over, but the need to help the community isn't.
The 2012 campaign goal was $1.67 million.
The community brought in $1,602,012 of that year during the campaign.
That's short of what the Salvation Army was aiming for, but it's still a tremendous help for families and kids in the tri-county area.
The co-chairs of the campaign say this was the biggest goal yet, because the need is there.
"It was a struggle this year," says co-chair Lynn Kunkle. "The need is there. That's why we tried our darndest to get there. We hope there's some more dollars coming in."
When it was needed most, the community really stepped up donations.
In the final month of campaigning, $500,000 was raised.
