BLOOMINGTON A special sign is lighting up the sky at a local charity. The 75-year-old "Jesus Cares" sign was replaced with a brand new one earlier this year to celebrate the ministry's 95th anniversary. It had been commissioned by the late Billy Shelper, who founded the agency that serves homeless people. Vice President of Marketing and Retail Sabrina Burkiewicz says it's the message that's more important than just new lighting.
"They can see the sign and just be reminded that when everything else in life fails, Jesus still cares and he does and he loves us all."
It tooko 6 years to raise the money to pay for the 10,000 sign. The final money was raised when an employee's husband passed away. It was his wish for the project to be complete, so donations at his funeral were directed to the fund.
