PEORIA - Methodist Medical Center is filing a lawsuit against OSF Healthcare's OSF St. Francis Medical Center, accusing the hospital of engaging in anti-competitive conduct.
Methodist filed the anti-trust suit in U.S. District Court Tuesday. Methodist says OSF St. Francis is practicing exclusionary conduct that limits patient choice. Methodist says the conduct is affecting several large, commercial insurers.
"We are taking this step only after many years of attempting to resolve the situation without legal action, including a recent conversation with OSF leaders," Methodist CEO Debbie Simon said in a prepared statement.
"We were informed this afternoon that Methodist Health Services Corporation has filed an anti-trust lawsuit against OSF Healthcare System." OSF Healthcare's Jim Farrell said in a prepared statement. "It will take some time for our legal counsel to review the 39-page complaint. So, we are not in a position to respond at this time."
Methodist is asking for more than $100 million in damages.
