PEORIA - Peoria's very own groundhog is predicting an early spring.

Gertie the Groundhog poked her head up around 7:00 AM at Wildlife Prairie Park and did not see her shadow.

Park volunteers said Gertie has a fairly accurate track record. She's predicted correctly for 16 of her 21 years.

Volunteer Jan Brown said, "Gertie's prognostication this year was an early Spring.  I think we're ready for it, after some near zero weather.  So thank you Gertie for that prognostication."

Another prediction by Gertie... the Baltimore Ravens will win the superbowl.

She's been predicting the big game the last two years and has been correct both times.
