PEORIA HEIGHTS - A local pharmacist is taking the top job in an international organization.
Wade Siefert is the co-owner of Preckshot Professional Pharmacy in Peoria Heights. He will be sworn in next week as president of the International Association of Compounding Pharmacists. Siefert says quality control will be his top priority. He'll be working to prevent things like what happened when the New England Compounding Center distributed defective medications that led to a nationwide meningitis outbreak.
"There are already laws, rules, policies and procedures on the book, and with the New England situation they just weren't followed," Siefert said. "My role and my goal is to enhance patient safety by having the laws that are already on the books enforced first of all, but also to help educate the people that inspect the pharmacies."
The international association of compounding pharmacists represents nearly three thousand pharmacists in five countries.
