NORMAL- If you're in need of a job, the McLean County Unit Five School District is hiring substitute teachers.
Recently, its list of subs has shrunk.
That's in part, to a state law requiring them to pay for their own background checks.
Unit Five could use about 100 extra substitutes, and it pays them $80 a day.
Superintendent Gary Niehaus says there are plenty of chances to fill in.
"They also have the opportunity to work in District 87 or they can go over to any of the surrounding districts and work, so lots of times they're double or triple registered with different districts so they have the opportunity," Niehaus explained.
The district is also hiring lunch room staff, custodians and bus drivers.
People can apply for Unit Five jobs anytime, but it will be taking walk-in appointments for substitute teachers tomorrow.
