PEORIA- A local trivia challenge Saturday helped six lucky high school students head to Washington D.C.
The Peoria Area World Affairs (PAWA) council hosted it's second annual trivia challenge. The non-profit organization strives to give Central Illinois a taste of world cultures.
PAWA hosts the High School International Scholastic Bowl in the fall, and winners get to compete in the Academic World Quest Competition in the nations capital. Saturday's challenge was a fundraiser to pay for their plane tickets.
Organizers say helping students understand world affairs helps them to not only become well rounded, but also well educated as they grow into adults.
"It's a world economy so these kids are going to compete with kids from all around the country and around the world for the same jobs so providing an international education is really important," said PAWA's executive director, Angela Weck.
120 people came out to rack their brains and support the fundraiser. Weck said she hopes to have raised $4,000.
