State Education Board Recommends Large Funding Hike

SPRINGFIELD- The Illinois State Board of Education approved a 2014 budget recommendation
Thursday including more than $874 million, or a 13.4 percent hike, in state funding over the
current year. The board is also calling for $20 million to beef up security in the aftermath
of Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. The board will provide its budget recommendation
to the governor and Illinois General Assembly.
