Local Soldiers Heading to Afghanistan

PEORIA - 60 soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 238th General Support Aviation stationed in Peoria
County will be deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months on Friday. The soldiers train for a brief
time at Fort Hood, Texas before heading overseas. While deployed, the unit will fly CH 47 Chinook helicopters and perform heavy helicopter air movement and air assault missions. It will also be in charge of re supply and aviation maintenance support. The unit is scheduled to return to Peoria in December.
