PEORIA -- Maloof's accomplishments extend beyond being Peoria's longest-serving mayor.

Those
close to him said his proudest achievement is bringing the St. Jude's Children's Research hospital to Peoria.

Maloof founded the Midwest affiliate and served as Chairman of the board.

The U.S. Secretary of Transportation and friend Ray LaHood reflects on Maloof's dedication to improving the quality of life for children with cancer. "Jim Maloof's legacy is the St. Jude affiliate. He started it, he made sure it was well-funded and he made sure it was doing what it's supposed to do which was save children's lives save Peoria, central Illinois kids lives and to comfort families and to me that's his legacy."
