WASHINGTON- Madison's On the Square is a tearoom, bakery and cafe, all rolled into one.

Open since late November, the shop is finally having it's grand opening.

Co-owner Kate Virkler said she and her husband were waiting for the holiday hype to die down.
Virkler said there are healthy, unhealthy, vegan as well as gluten free options. And so far the reaction has been good.

"The menu looks wonderful, we couldn't even decide what we wanted," said Nicole Jones.

Connie Franklin said, "The soup, cheese burger, what was it, chowder, is excellent. I want the recipe."

"The food was delicious," said Jan Stewart.

But there's more to the cafe than soup, salad and sandwiches.

"Four years ago our daughter Madison was born to us and shortly after she was born she passed away," Virkler said.

The husband-wife team said that name on their sign is a reason to run the shop with a smile.

"This place was named after her, her name was Madison Jill and um, just kind of a way that she can kind of live on in our lives and a memory for us and hopefully share a little bit of the joy that she brought to our lives," Virkler said.

The Virklers also own a tearoom in Mackinaw, but they say "Madison's On the Square" is a different menu.

It's open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays until 2:00 p.m.
