City Honors Man Behind "Levee District" Name

EAST PEORIA - By now, you've probably heard about "The Levee District".
It's the new name for East Peoria's developing downtown.
Tuesday, Mayor Dave Mingus and city council honored the man behind the title.
Don Taylor
says the name came from his childhood days watching his brother play sports
near the levee in that area.
Last year, the city issued a contest for the best name. Taylor's idea was selected from more than 260 entries. The city also awarded Taylor with a free stay at the Embassy Suites.
