Two Fulton County men were killed Tuesday in a three vehicle crash in Peoria County on Route 24, one was heading to work while the other was heading home.
The accident closed off that section of Route 24 near Kingston Mines for several hours. Peoria
County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll identified the victims as Alan Donald McLuckie, 59 of Cuba and
Zachary Taylor, 20, of St. David. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened
on Route 24 just south of Wheeler Road where the two lane portion of the road begins to widen
diverge into four lanes. State Police say one vehicle was westbound while the other two vehicles
were eastbound. The first unit crossed the center dividing line, striking the left front of unit two and
the third unit struck the back of the second unit. Besides the two victims, two other people suffered
non life threatening injuries. Meanwhile, people who drive this road every day say Route 24 is
known to be dangerous. They say a combination of heavy rush hour traffic and occasional careless drivers makes the road unsafe. The Peoria County sheriff says he plans to have more police
with radar patroling Route 24.
