Peoria Councilman Goes to Court Seeking Appeal

A Peoria councilman, who is appealing a decision to kick him off the primary ballot, will learna
judge's decision in the next two days. Gary Sandberg, who is currently an at large councilman
is attempting to run from the first district. However, last month the Peoria Election Commission
upheld challenges from Sandberg's opponents and kicked him off the ballot.
His challengers claimed the municipal code requires Sandberg to live in the district for a
year but Sandberg disagrees and says the board is twisting the language to use the rule
against him Even if Sandberg loses his chance to run from the first district, he will remain
a councilman until at least 2015.
