PEORIA - Construction on Peoria's Pere Marquette Hotel continues to make progress. Workers are now piecing the place back together.

After a complete refurbishing process, the Pere Marquette will have a new look and updated design.

The old hotel closed its doors last April to prepare for a  year of construction. The 44 million dollar project will feature a redesigned restaurant, bar, entrance and 286 updated rooms.

Developer Gary Matthews said the hotel is past the point of gutting and now it's all about putting the walls back up and preparing it for the design process. "This is a Marriott, full service hotel building. So they require a lot of custom features. The lighting, the floors, the walls, and even the pods to  check in are upbeat and updated."

Matthews said the hotel will be open by April 30. The deadline was previously in early March, but because they will not make that deadline they could be facing fines from the city.

He expects demolition on the rest of the block to happen very soon. He said all construction plans are in place and will begin immediately after.
